Here is an update for all our friends. We announced in November that we were trying to raise $82,000 by December 31st to cap off 2011 and pay the bills coming in for the upcoming festival in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. God has been providing. Thus far we’ve raised $42,765. That means with 11 days left we have $39,235 left to raise. Keep praying and working with us and together we will watch God bring in the resources needed to do His work.

A Message from Brazil

I have a funny story to tell you. Our maid gathered a lot of people to see Jaci Velasquez and found a friend, who wasn't a Christian, to give them a ride in his van. As they were going to the event on Friday night, this man decided to stop the van at a little church as he heard a hymn that struck his ear. The whole group lamented but stayed with him, and there that night he gave his life to Jesus...what a joy!!!!!

Mike, doors were opened in our community because of that night. Many teens, youths and adults came and felt at home at the event. So, praise the Lord for the unseen results, for He acts in many mysterious ways.

Please say thanks to all, and to Jaci, who left a unique and beautiful impression for her talent and humble spirit.

No Cancer!! That is the tremendous news of the day! We declare the Lord’s goodness no matter what but we fall before Him in humble gratitude for this great report!

I cannot thank you enough for remembering me in your prayers. You have been our greatest encouragement and support! Every detail of this process was evidence that God had gone before us giving wisdom to those who facilitated in my surgery, making special adjustments at the last minute to avert any unnecessary stress on my lung.

Update on Crystal

THANK YOU for praying for my Crystal. The last several weeks have been a series of ups and downs and knowing that you were praying for us was the greatest encouragement!

Wednesday’s surgery was a success! The surgeon was able to remove Crystal’s thyroid and the growth without any complications. The doctor said the growth was the size of a tennis ball. Already Crystal has felt tremendous relief. She has not been able to talk since surgery day and it will be several more days before she’s able to do so again. We meet with the doctor on December 9 for a follow-up appointment and to receive the biopsy results. Please continue to pray with us!

Mom just got home - she did really well. The growth on her thyroid was the size of a tennis ball!!!! Now we pray for no complications,
infections or blood clots. She's not supposed to talk for the next week
so please pray for that also ;) Her follow up with the surgeon/biopsy

Este miércoles, el 30 de noviembre, mi esposa Crystal será operada para extirpar la glándula tiroides.

Les pido que se unen a nosotros y pedir que el Señor:

1. Mantenga baja la presión arterial. Ha estado alta la presión y el cirujano no hará la operación con la tensión arterial elevada. Como medida provisional ella está tomando unos medicamentos para remediar la situación.

2. No haya complicaciones. Por favor pide al Señor que guie las manos del cirujano y por todos los detalles de la cirugía y la recuperación.

3. Que los resultados de la biopsia sean benignos. Existe la posibilidad de que Crystal tenga cáncer de la tiroides (tendremos los resultados una semana después de la cirugía).

Muchas gracias por unirse a nosotros en oración durante este tiempo. Estamos confiando en el Señor y entregando a Crystal a Él. La cobertura de sus oraciones nos anima mientras entramos en lo desconocido que es la cirugía este miércoles.

Dearest Prayer Partners,

This Wednesday, November 30, my Crystal will be having surgery to have her right thyroid removed.

Would you please join with us in asking the Lord:

1. That Crystal's blood pressure would stay down. It has been up and the surgeon will not operate with her blood pressure elevated. She is on a temporary blood pressure medication to remedy this.

2. For no complications. Please ask the Lord to guide the surgeon's hands and for all the details of the surgery and recovery.

3. That the results of the biopsy would come back "benign". There is a chance Crystal could have cancer of her thyroid (we receive results a week after surgery).

Thank you for joining us in prayer during this time. We are trusting the Lord and committing Crystal to HIM. Your prayer coverings encourage us as we head in to the unknown of Wednesday's surgery.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support of our two festivals in Brazil. God moved in a powerful way and many lives were transformed!

On November 18, we proclaimed the Gospel in Fortaleza. The leadership of the church that invited us (Central Baptist Church) challenged their cell groups to invite their unsaved friends to the festival. The event was held in the church’s open aired tent. There were more than 4,000 people in attendance. The place was buzzing with excitement as the crowd waited for Jaci Velasquez and Salvador to perform. When Mike took the stage he immediately connected with the audience and gave a clear presentation of the Gospel in Portuguese. Many responded to the call to action. Central Baptist is already working hard to ensure that every person who made a commitment to Christ is being followed up with by a cell group leader.

The next festival took place the following night in João Pessoa. We partnered with the City of Life Church to make the outreach possible. The event was held close to the city’s center on one of its most popular beachfronts. The reason for the location was to strategically take the hope of the Gospel into the heart of the city. More than 8,000 people attended the event. Salvador and Jaci Velasquez again thrilled the crowd and set the stage for Mike to proclaim the Gospel. Many responded to the call to accept Jesus Christ. Local leaders told us after the event that there had never been a mass evangelistic outreach in their city before. City of Life Church is working hard this week to follow up with the decision makers.

We thank the Lord for the opportunities He gave us in Brazil, many being “firsts” for us. This was our first Portuguese speaking event (a long time dream of Mike & Crystal’s). It was also our first time to be a part of an outreach hosted by one local church.

Our next evangelistic outreach takes place in March 2012 in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Please pray for this event. It will be a one-day festival featuring musical artists Tercer Cielo, Raza For Christ, Miss Tani and more. Please join with us in asking the Lord to – even now – begin working in the lives of the people in Matagalpa. Ask Him to soften hearts and draw people to the festival.

We thank and bless the Lord for the harvest that He drew this past week in Puerto Plata.

We estimate that over 70,000 people attended the festival Friday night –with more than 14,500 decision cards received! Saturday night is estimated at over 80,000 in attendance and decision cards are still being counted. 2,155 counselors were trained to assist in praying for decision makers. The Mayor and the Governor both received Christ! 48 radio stations in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Puerto Rico aired the Festival and we are waiting to hear about the response of the Festival online as well.

In addition to the massive attendance and response to the Festival, we don’t discount the many lives that were changed through the MSI Serve Team during the week leading up to the festival.

There is so much for us to be thankful for. We praise the Lord for the work that He did.

Saturday Night

All of Dominican Republic’s biggest leaders took the stage last night and the governor presented Mike with a plaque holding “The Key to Puerto Plata.” He is only the second person in the city’s history to receive the high honor – the first was the President of the Dominican Republic. God gave Mike tremendous favor in this city; and in his words, he is “humbled and forever grateful.”

More than 70,000 people were estimated to be at the Festival on Friday night and over 14,500 made decisions to accept Jesus Christ! Praise the Lord!

Tonight kicked off with Miss Tani and her dancers at Festi Kids! They were a big hit and thousands of children attended (total number TBA). Team member, Vic Murphy, performed BMX tricks right on the stage and the crowd roared with enthusiasm! Raza for Christ and Alex Campos were the main bands throughout the evening, but hands-down, the most thrilling part of the night was when Mike clearly and effectively presented the Gospel message in a way that captured the audience and prompted the hearts of thousands more to say yes to Jesus! The Holy Spirit moved in a mighty way tonight in Puerto Plata... what a Festival to remember!

Sunday the team will visit local churches and minister to fellow believers through praise and worship and studying God’s Word together. Please pray for our team as some of the men will be giving messages and presenting the Gospel yet again. “Our job is to step forward and cast the net”, Mike said at a team meeting Thursday night. Tomorrow will be another opportunity, and for so many souls... this is just the beginning!

Possibly the Biggest We've Seen!

The Festival Por La Vida in Puerto Plata got off to a great start Friday night. Musical guests Edward D, Raza 4 Christ, and Tercer Cielo performed to an electrified crowd, which according to a veteran MSI staff member, “was possibly the biggest we’ve seen!” Multiple reports confirmed that the typically congested streets of Puerto Plata were virtually deserted – their frequent drivers enjoying the festival.

Mike Silva took the stage and the crowd listened intently to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thousands of enthusiastic Dominicans watched as Silva nailed into a white cross, which he explained, Jesus endured on their behalf. “Only the blood of Christ can cleanse a man’s heart from sin.” At the conclusion of his message, Silva implored individuals to respond to God’s gift: “Today is the day of salvation.” From within the crowd, hand, after hand, after hand was raised to receive Jesus Christ. In the moments that followed, many more prayed and believed in Christ as their Lord and Savior.

As overwhelming as Friday’s harvest has been, much more is still to come in Puerto Plata!

Festival Por La Vida

The festival kicks off in a few short hours! There is heightened excitement amongst the team and even the hotel staff. They have been anticipating this event the past two months. A manager of the hotel said this is the most publicity and enthusiasm she has ever seen for any event in this area. There are over 400 bookings by out-of-town travelers coming to see the festival! In fact, the largest event in Puerto Plata happened several years ago, and in her words, “Festival Por La Vida will be over and above it!” We are trusting the Lord for a vast number of people to attend tonight, and even more tomorrow. We’re confident that the Lord is going to move like never before in this city. Please pray for Mike to be empowered by the Holy Spirit, the bands that are performing to draw in crowds and be glorifying to the Lord, and for the hearts of each and every Dominican to be open to receiving the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Evangelism in the Streets

On Thursday afternoon, evangelist and musician, Justin Benedict, served as God’s mouthpiece to a lone Haitian man on the busy streets of Puerto Plata. The two met at a crosswalk where Benedict was passing out flyers for this weekend’s festival –Festival Por La Vida. The January 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti drove this man away from his home, his family, his job, and his country. As a foreigner in the Dominican Republic, he has found it hard to find work and a suitable place to live.

Benedict knew God was leading him to share the Gospel with the desperate Haitian man. After he explained God’s love and every man’s need for salvation, Benedict asked if the man wanted to be saved. He replied, “Don’t I have to go to a church to do that?” Benedict assured him, “You can pray and receive Christ right here, right now!” With the noise of passing vehicles in the background, the man prayed to receive new life and began a relationship with Jesus Christ.

God has been using the MSI serve team to minister in mighty ways. And the Festival Por La Vida is still to come!

As we shared the Gospel at a local church this morning, we were reminded of exactly why we are here… to see lives transformed through the Good News. Please pray for Marissa (pictured, center) — she has been attending church for a long time, and knows about God, but she doesn’t know Him personally. She came forward at church and asked for prayer over the sadness she feels from losing her mother. “I have an ache in my heart that is not going away,” she said. Marissa does not know the Lord and she is not ready to accept His free gift of grace yet, but obviously her heart is stirred. Please cover her, and so many others who feel the same way, with prayer. Pray that they would come to the Festival and say, “yes” to Jesus!

Ministry Opportunities

Yesterday, teams visited elderly homes, orphanages, and churches. We had the incredible opportunity to meet physical needs by distributing food and, best of all, spiritual needs by sharing the Gospel. Several adults and kids made decisions for Christ! We handed out the Gospel bracelets to each child so they now have a visual reminder that they are saved and valued by God. We are so thankful for the doors that are opening up here in Puerto Plata! Please continue to pray for each of the team members as we invite people to the Festival. What a privilege we have to be witnesses of such a tremendous harvest of souls!

International evangelist and professional BMX stuntman, Vic Murphy, performed to riveted crowds at local churches and orphanages on Wednesday. Murphy’s most notable stunt, the infamous Jump of Death, “Salto de Muerte,” roused applause and excitement from audiences of all ages.

While many bystanders are attracted to the action sports show, it cannot be compared with the eternally significant message of Jesus Christ. Murphy shared his testimony to those who gathered saying, “I asked God for forgiveness from my sins and gave my life to Jesus.” Many more performances are planned throughout the week. Please pray that Vic Murphy and the rest of the Mike Silva International team will be used to share the Gospel with the people of Puerto Plata.

I want to tell you a story…

This isn’t a story from the mind of John Milton, the author of Paradise Lost or J.J. Abrams, the creator of the TV show LOST.

It is a story that involves YOU and ME and the HEART OF GOD for a beautiful island, a struggling people, and a love so great it can barely be imagined.

The island is the Dominican Republic. It is anchored in the Caribbean. The people are from a little town called Puerto Plata on the northern coast of the island, and they are some of the poorest people in all of Latin America.

But poverty isn’t their only problem…

The pastors in Puerto Plata have been telling us for years that there is a spiritual depravity in their town. They’ve been praying together asking the Lord to do something great, to make His name known, and to change the hearts of the people.

That’s where YOU and I come into the story….

You see, these pastors have asked us to come, bring our serve teams and our festival, and boldly proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in their town.

So we are coming… Put the date on your calendar. The week of June 20th through 26th we are going to be in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Together we’re going to be part of the story…the story of a loving God, reaching out to a lost people, and offering the life-changing opportunity to repent from sin and follow Jesus Christ.

To do this work, our team has moved to Puerto Plata. We’re working with pastors, training congregations in friendship evangelism, and getting them ready to serve and counsel those who come to know Jesus Christ.

As I said earlier in this letter, this is a story that involves YOU.

For some of you, we’ve worked together before. You’ve prayed, given, and been a part of our festival outreaches. Now I want to ask you to join with us again. There is so much work to be done.

PRAYER: Please put the Puerto Plata Festival on your prayer list. Ask God to be moving in the city, empowering and emboldening Christians. Ask Him to be softening the hearts of those who don’t know Jesus. Pray for our team as they labor and prepare. Lift up their families as they serve and sacrifice.

GIVE: Between now and June 1st – we need to raise $225,000 specifically for this outreach. We don’t have reserves this year to cover the expenses if we don’t raise this money so we’re praying and looking to all our friends to help raise this money. By God’s grace it can and will be raised. We are confident of that, but I want to ask you to please stand with us financially to make sure this money comes in and we can boldly go to Puerto Plata and proclaim the Gospel.

Our serve teams are going into some of the poorest neighborhoods in Latin America to distribute food and clothing and work on projects to serve people and share the love of Jesus Christ with them. MSI Festival in Dominican Republic

This June, Mike Silva International is fulfilling a promise to the people of the Dominican Republic. In 2008, the MSI team shared the message of Jesus Christ to 165,000 people and extended God’s love to the community of Azua, Dominican Republic, where over 34,000 people made decisions to follow Christ. Their unprecedented enthusiasm for the Gospel fueled Mike’s resolve to return; this time to the coastal city of Puerto Plata.

According to the Governor, “98% of people who come to Puerto Plata only do recreation and tourism.” Mike Silva International has something very different in mind for Puerto Plata – meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the people. The main event of this outreach will be a two-day festival featuring special events for business and government leaders, a children’s fiesta, live performances by popular music artists, a message of hope from Mike and effective discipleship from MSI team members. This outreach will also include food and clothing distribution, a pastor’s conference, a women’s event and various training events.

In 2006, MSI did a massive evangelistic festival in Colon, Panama. Then in 2008 we sent a team to the Kuna Indians of the San Blas Islands and also back to Colon, Panama to do a pastor’s conference to make sure follow-up was happening.

One pastor from Panama recently told us…

Meanwhile back in the jungle...

Amidst the humidity of the Amazon forest, God is at work! The city of Leticia is the southernmost city in Colombia, on the border of both Brazil and Peru. It has about 40,000 people who live there plus a Colombian army-training base. Unless you have access to the Amazon River, there is only one way to get to Leticia, by air (there is only one flight a day!).

Going in we were aware that the largest gathering in history was a political rally of 7,000 and that there was only one adequate place for the Festival, a soccer field that turns to a quagmire when it rains. And believe me, it rains in the jungle! The day of the festival, our volunteer team was found on the field, emptying it of the mounting rain puddles bucket by bucket.

Some of those who live in the Leticia area are bilingual, Spanish-Portuguese. However, the greater part of the people either speak one or the other but not both.

The first adventure was a two-hour trip upriver to visit a community where the Mayor promised that the entire population would stop and come to the evangelistic rally. This didn’t happen but there were several hundred in attendance and “Miss Tani” ministered to the children and Mike Silva presented the Gospel with an invitation to receive Christ.

A group of Americans accompanied the MSI team with the express purpose of going upriver and visiting remote villages. In all they visited four different river villages and provided a lunch for the entire tribe. In each instance the “Curaca” (tribal leader) had to give his approval. We also worked with a local missionary who works with the Yagua tribes and helped translate the New Testament into Yagua. We left 50 audio bibles in the Yagua language for her to give to the pastors and leaders in the tribe.

The teams performed skits, gave testimonies, performed musical numbers and gave the Gospel. Each tribe had one functioning Bible believing church and the pastor was present to follow-up the new converts.

The teams also visited an orphanage in Leticia itself. The team was greatly impacted by that experience and many returned back for a second and third time throughout the week.

Two “God thing” opportunities presented themselves during the week. The manager of the hotel told us at the beginning of the week that he was a skeptic but had an open mind and would be watching us. Later in the week, he asked Mike if he would present the “message” to the entire hotel staff if he gathered them together. At the invitation every one of the staff indicated that they wanted to receive the Lord including the manager.

Since the army is not really welcome in town, a Major asked if we could give a concert on the army base. The MSI coordinator, Bayron Lechuga said the concert does not come without the message. So they accepted both! Raza for Christ, three wonderful young men from Honduras (music: reggaeton), put on a concert that was both inspirational and entertaining! Over 400 people attended. Afterward Mike gave the Gospel. Over 2/3rds of the crowd raised their hands to receive the Lord including the “Commandante.”

Two evangelistic meetings with teenage girls turned out to be both powerful and fruitful. There was one in Colombia and the other was held on the Brazilian side. In each, one of the visiting children’s workers, a teenage girl from Guatemala gave her testimony along with one of the visiting Americans and afterward Mike gave the Gospel. Several of the girls received the Lord and others sought his forgiveness.

The local pastors and their wives gathered for a daylong conference. Dr. Jaime Mirón had the chance to speak about what the Bible says about the home, about bitterness, moral purity and unity.

On Saturday we ventured over to the Brazilian side where Mike and Dr. Mirón spoke to about 100 pastors, leaders and spouses. The messages were simple but the Lord blessed in an unusual way.

A conference for women was held and several women from Morningstar Community Church in Salem, Oregon gave a powerful message on our value in Jesus Christ. They brought simple gifts for each woman in attendance which was very meaningful to them.

Heavy tropical rains turned the soccer field where the Festival was to be held into a quagmire. We went to prayer and asked the Lord to hold off the rains on Friday and Saturday. Teams of people worked all Thursday night to drain off the standing water. There were no pumps available so ditches were dug and buckets and large sponges were used. The field was cleared, saw dust was put on the mud and the Lord held off the rain for the two days.

On Saturday “Miss Tani”, the MSI children’s ministry group from Guatemala, ministered to the children at the Festikids event.

At night, Jaci Velásquez sang along with Raza for Christ and Mike Silva gave the Gospel in Portuguese and Spanish. The crowd was largely Christian but a large number of the non-Christians who did attend made public decisions to receive the Lord! In all for the week hundreds gave their lives to the Savior.

The over 50 team members who went on this trip were greatly impacted by what they saw and experienced. Mike Bayly, a pastor from Pennsylvania said, “This motivates me to share Christ more in my own city!” Donna Grubaugh, from Washington, said, “I got to be rescued and be a rescuer! I was rescued from all my fears and insecurities. And I was a rescuer in that I was able to serve food to a community in need and share the message of salvation to the children in the orphanage.”

For the future, it looks like the Lord is directing us back to the Dominican Republic! Please keep looking on the WEB site and as we will notify you as soon as the final decision is made.

Our God Loves the Abandoned

Today we visited the orphanage "Casa de los niños" here in Leticia. They care for 85 children ages 4-16. It's run by a Christian ministry so the children are not only receiving physical care & an education but they learn about the Lord every day as well.

Miss Tani's group performed some songs and dances, then she gave a wonderful gospel message. It was one of the most precious experiences of my life. Her message was perfect for "abandoned" children...she told them, "those of you without a mother or father or family- you feel alone, abandoned, forgotten, unloved...but we've come
here with the message that there is a Father who knows you, who sees you, who loves you & He wants you to be a part of His Family. And in His Family you are part of a Great Big Family"--she pointed out our team all around the room--"where we are all brothers & sisters & we have One Father."

The kids began to break down in tears, and as a worship song played softly in the background our team joined Miss Tani's group and spread throughout the room. We prayed over these hurting children and hugged them all! It was priceless. Our hearts broke over their hurt, but rejoiced in the message of our Heavenly Father who loves us, knows us by name, and brings us into His Family.

Keep praying for us, because tonight is the first night of our festival. God has been working so mightily so far, I pray that he continues!

UPDATE: My Meeting With Hotel Staff

I wanted to give everyone a quick update on our meeting at the hotel. I can tell you, your prayers were evident! As I wrote yesterday, the hotel manager asked if I would speak to his staff last night—he even made it a mandatory meeting! There were twenty-four workers at the hotel (including the manager), but during the time I spoke, there was literally no one working.

“Why are you here on earth?” I asked them. I knew they needed to think about their purpose in life. Then I shared the Gospel with them to let them know what that purpose really is. I wanted them to know that they weren’t put here to just follow some religious rules, but to have a true relationship with a person, Jesus Christ.

“How do you clean the dishes?” I said to the kitchen workers.

“With soap and water!”

And God cleans our hearts, I told them, with the blood of Jesus.

After this I asked everyone to bow their heads as I prayed. I prayed a sinner’s prayer aloud and I heard a group of voices repeating my words. Then, just before it was time for everyone to lift their heads, I asked if everyone who had prayed with me and really meant it would lift their heads first.

In an instant all twenty-four workers were looking me in the face. EVERY SINGLE PERSON had prayed that prayer and meant it from the heart. What a blessing! The Holy Spirit had moved in their lives, and it was a tremendous blessing for me to not only be a witness, but the tool through which the Spirit worked!

Pray for this new group of Christians so that they will be able to find a solid church here in Colombia, and please pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in their lives. We also desperately need your prayers for the rest of our ministry in Colombia so that we can continue bringing the Gospel to the people who need to hear.

Good News for Leticia!

Greetings to you all!

We have had a very full and exciting time serving in Colombia so far, and I am looking forward to what God will do in the days to come. The entire team has been very active here. Yesterday we got started by sailing up the Amazon so we could hold “Lunches of Hope” in some local villages. We were amazed by the response of the people as we served them food and shared the Gospel with them.

“Many people come to take away from us,” they said as our team set up the lunch, “but few come to give.”

We loved having the opportunity to live out the Gospel in front of them. As I told our team later, when you serve others God will be given honor, and I believe that is happening here. Pray that the service God enabled us to deliver will drive these villagers toward the Gospel.

Our day did not end with the Lunches of Hope, though! Afterward we all traveled two hours up the Amazon for an event in the city of Puerto Narino. The local children came out in droves for this event, and Miss Tani did a wonderful job performing for them and then giving them what they truly need: the Gospel. Seeing the message of Christ go out to so many children was very moving!

We will be heading to some more villages today, so pray that God will prepare their hearts to hear his message, and that he will prepare our hearts to serve the people well and declare the Gospel clearly. Another event I am eagerly anticipating today is my meeting with the hotel staff. The manager of our hotel is not a Christian, but God is working in his heart! We know this because he was the one who requested the meeting. Please pray hard for him so that the Gospel will take root in his heart.

I’m also going to meet with the Mayor and the Governor of the area, so pray that I can clearly share the Gospel with these powerful men. Pray especially for the Mayor, because there are signs God is working in his heart as well. He really blessed us after some officials told us we would not be allowed to hold any events in the local stadium, which is normally reserved for soccer. The mayor called and overruled them, saying "I am in charge, and the stadium is yours to use." Praise God!

We have also been having great success with girls’ conferences. We held one yesterday in Brazil, and there were about 100 girls in attendance! I had the chance to share the gospel with these young ladies, and it was quite a blessing. We were encouraged by several testimonies there, so we know that God is using our work to change lives. There is another girl's conference tonight in Colombia, as well as a Women’s Conference, so we are praying for similar results. I myself will share the Gospel, while Raza for Christ goes and performs for the local Colombian Army.

The Gospel is going out in these communities, which is a tremendous blessing, but the churches in the region need a great deal of prayer. There is disunity and evidence of moral decay, like infidelity, and drug use. Please pray for unity and healing in these churches so that the new Christians will have a healthy place to worship and grow.

Jim Williams spoke to many of the local Pastors on Tuesday, and we’re hoping he will be an encouragement to them. Add to that the Pastors/Leaders Conference on Friday morning, and Jim will have spoken on "Why I base my teachings on the Bible?", "What is Marriage?", “Bitterness”, "God's Blueprint for Parents", and "The Benefits of Moral Purity", which are all areas of need in these churches. Please pray with us that Jim’s worlds will impact these pastors, and that they will take that impact back to their churches.

I am incredibly thankful that God has given me the chance to minister in a place where there is so much need for the Gospel. It is a privilege, and I hope that you will continue partnering with us through prayer, giving, or both! We cannot do this on our own, so please pray that we will go in God’s power as we deliver his message to the people of Brazil and Colombia.

This has been a double WOW! experience being part of Mike Silva’s team, shooting over a thousand photos and seeing ministry happening everywhere. A highlight yesterday for instance took place after sharing at a small church, giving 33 food tubs, books, toys and New Testaments. We had been planning to stop for some street witnessing and handing out fliers for the festival concert taking place last night. The bus driver, a Christian,asked if we would pray with his brother who is ill with diabetes and set for amputation of some toes. We stopped at the brother’s home and our whole group crowded into the neat little house. We gathered around to pray for the brother. Then an offer to accept Christ as savior was extended. The whole family, seven in total, accepted Christ.

Last night the festival got under way with a children’s event at 4 PM and then four music groups including Jaci Velasquez. Her husband, Nic Gonzales, played first with his group of incredible musicians called Salvador. That group backed Jaci when she sang doing a wonderful performance relating to the crowd of 80,000 on a hot humid evening in this 400 year old city. The mayor named Mike Silva one of the great contributors to the betterment of Leon awarding him a framed certificate. Keep in mind the mayor is communist.

Mike really drew the crowd’s attention, relating to some local situations, throwing out some soccer balls and using simple illustrations for his Bible stories. Many people prayed to accept Christ, not a religion or a church, but the personal relationship, unfamiliar in Catholic societies. To prepare for the follow-up 18 training sessions have been taught and each supporting church has their own method of implementing the contact from cards turned in. One church reported 320 workers have been trained. Next week there is a free dinner with 800 people being invited from the festival decisions. The workers will follow-up after the dinner.

Festival Attendance - 140,000!

Thousands of kids and parents showed up at 4 pm to see Miss Tani and her dancers perform at the Children’s Fiesta! The outcome exceeded our expectations!

An estimated 80,000 people Saturday night. 55,000 Friday night and nearly 140,000 people total over the 2-night festival.

Same bands on Saturday as there were on Friday night plus Tercer Cielo closing out the night… the crowd went wild! They sang every song along with them. Very well received.

As soon as Mike stepped on stage, he used engaging visual illustrations, one of which was blind folding a guy, spinning him around, and trying to make him walk in a straight line, but then the second time, having “obstacles” in the way.

The crowd was hanging on Mike’s every word - very engaged and receptive. The message was clear and easy to understand. Mike described the difference between religion and a relationship with the Lord. He talked about receiving Christ as being a step of faith, but a free gift that doesn’t need to be earned, worked for, etc. He gave an alter call and thousands raised their hands.

A second follow up invitation was given by Adan Velasquez (from group Raza for Christ). More raised their hands to receive Christ. The total number of decisions still being calculated.

A huge thank you to our Latin team, who worked around the clock the past 6 months to make the festival happen. While our team went to bed last night, Latin team members, along with several other volunteers… worked all night and all morning until 6 a.m. to clean every part of the stage, every booth, every piece of garbage on the ground, etc. And that’s just one minor detail. We would not have these festivals without wonderful leaders and volunteers like these!

Friday Night Crowd - 55,000!

We're praising God for the huge crowd on Friday night. The official count is 55,000 people! The crowd on Saturday night was much larger. We don't have an official count for that yet. As soon as we get it, we will post it! Commitment and decision cards are still being counted too!

Last night the mayor (Manel Calderón Chévez) gave an official welcome. He also presented a plaque to Mike as "distinguised visitor." Afterward I was talking to him and he said that everyone always goes to Managua. No one comes to León. For us this is special!

Conference for Pastor's Wives!

300 were in attendance at the conference for pastor's wives. Jenna Silva gave a greeting! Gail Williams spoke followed by Gabriela Galvez.

Mike Silva and Dr. Jim Williams spoke at the business conference. Dr. Williams spoke first, then there was a lunch followed by Mike. Mike was fantastic! He gave a clear but simple presentation of Gospel, gave an initation (with the mayor present) and had people raise their hands. There were about 100 people present and 20 gave their hearts to the Lord!

This Just In...

This just in… The heat in Nicaragua is unbearable! Our teams our doing just great and delivering food and blessing people all over the city.

Mike, Dr. Williams, and Rigo met with the mayor last night. After their meeting they were led down the hall to meet a small group of the mayor’s staff. More than 200 people attended that “small” meeting. The room was packed and Mike used the opportunity to present the Gospel. When he finished, he gave an invitation and asked for a show of hands. Scores raised their hands! We have no way of knowing how many. It turned out to be an unexpected but glorious meeting.

Continue to pray for Mike and the team as they serve and minister in the events leading up to the festival this weekend!

Update for Leon!

Here is some exciting news from Leon as of today!

-244 pastors from Leon are involved and supporting the festival. 78 more who live in cities around Leon are involved. Our staff here having been working with them for months.

-2800 counselors have been trained.

-The churches are committed to bringing non-believers to the festival.

-7 Radio stations, some national and some local, have been advertising the festival.

-publicity is all over the city – there are 450 banners, 30 “billboards” (which are really painted on walls and homes b/c billboards don’t exist here), 4000 posters, 160,000 flyers handed out, etc.

-there have been 15 publications advertised in the national and local newspapers.

-As I write, the Team is on a plane from Houston – Managua.

-Mike is in really good spirits and excited to share the Gospel.

-Mike has meetings planned with the mayor and his whole staff!

Our team is heading to Nicaragua in 6 days from today! 34 people will be traveling to the city of Leon for one week. This is a festival that each of us have been praying over and anticipating for many months now, and we are so glad it's finally time to go.

Latin team member, Bayron Lechuga, said it well: "God is doing great things in the city of Leon! We are ready to make this dream a reality!"

Gearing Up For Nicaragua!

In just over two weeks, our team will be in Leon, Nicaragua, for an outreach festival that is sure to be remembered among the city! Details are coming together well for this outreach, but we continually appreciate your prayer for all the details that have yet to be decided.

Join us today in lifting up Leon!

Nearly 300 churches in and around Leon are partnering with us to make the Festival happen. Our publicity campaign is coming together nicely and has created quite a stir in the city.

* We are doing a ½ hour weekly radio program (on Christian and non- Christian stations). There will be 94 total.
* The work has not been easy but we are very encouraged by the way things have been going. A national newspaper has been advertising the festival.
* We have maximized capacity for our Pastors Conference. This is a great sign to have so many pastors signed up at such an early date.
* We have trained 1,607 counselors and we will be training more every weekend until the time of the festival!
* We think this is the time for God to move powerfully, and the church is ready for a harvest.

We have a team of 35 people who will be serving in Leon. They will help hand out family-to-family tubs, share the Gospel, and pray with the people.

What an incredible opportunity! The largest evangelical Christian organization in America has recognized Mike Silva as their pick for partner evangelism.

After attending one of Mike’s international festivals, National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC) President Samuel Rodriguez said this: “Thousands responded to a clear invitation for salvation and deliverance [from Mike].
